Photo Caption Contest

Patrick, in mid-sentence

Patrick Hero was talking about something important. What could it have been? The best caption gets something awesome.

Dear Alberto Contador

This was written by my niece on a popular networking site. I think she is pretty clear on how she feels about todays stage. Go Andy!

little brooks saddle

Well the boys seem to be sleeping here, so I thought I'd fill the void with the latest post office delivery to the house. This will go on the De Rosa...it's really on it way to becoming a real bike!

my podium pick!

Well the Shlecks may not have pulled through in my podium pick of the brothers winning the Paris-Roubaix (I know I know, they weren't racing) but this is pretty good too. Yea Andy! He's my pick for the winner and, though I'm no football octopus*, we all know who won the Paris-Roubaix podium pick contest...though I have no idea now who I picked**.

* if you don't know the football octopus, go here.
**Luke just reminded me it was Fabian.

Sean's pumping technique needs some work. Are any of the other Heroes interested in lending a hand?

Luke... Hero?

Luke's Hero status could possibly be up for debate following his recent purchase of a vintage Raleigh Sprite 27.
When confronted about this, he was quoted:
"I've always wanted an English Women's Bike."

Fabian

I think Fabian will ride for Columbia next year. Just a guess.

Two Views

First Jens:

“I think the ASO owes the entire Tour peloton a public apology,” an emotional Voigt screamed from his bike. “I lost one of the best friends I have in cycling, Fränk Schleck. And it was written all over the road before the stage even started.

“It was a stupid race, and a stupid mistake from the race organization. All I want is a public apology. They should say ‘Dear riders, it was a mistake, putting on a stage like that.’ It was stupid, it’s as simple as that.”

Now Thor:

“The cobbles don’t scare me. I plan on being at the front and sprinting for the win today,” he said.

Mighty Thor Speaks

"What happened is not normal," Hushovd said on the phone. "I'm very sorry for the riders who crashed. It was a big mess. But yet, this is still a bike race. Crashes happen all the time. It's been a really big mistake from ASO and the UCI commissaires to agree to neutralise the end of the stage. The Tour de France is a big, big race. Things like that shouldn't happen."

"Why should Cancellara decide?," the Norwegian questioned. "He's a rider like us." Hushovd and the Cervélo team were one of the few to not accept the decision of the yellow jersey to wait for some injured riders and then to prevent the sprint for second place from being contested. Jeremy Hunt chased behind Chavanel for a while.

"I've been riding all day for the stage win and the green jersey and I end up with nothing," Hushovd continued. "This is not fair. Will the same thing happen tomorrow? Will the times for GC be taken before the pavés sections? If Alberto Contador or another big rider crashes tomorrow on the cobblestones, he's entitled to ask for the race to be neutralised too! So when will we race, really?"

FABIAN

Will crush tomorrow.

Just a thought.

Greg and Floyd

First This from Greg,
"My Lance Armstrong prediction? Either he will not start or he will pull out just before the race enters France. I have a feeling that the world of cycling is about to change for the better."

And Now This from Floyd,
http://www.cyclingnews.com/news/explosive-landis-revelations-on-eve-of-tour
The first thing I have to ask is whether any doping revelation has stopped the next doping incident. Eddy got busted and Tom Simpson even died.

These guys may know something but they remind me of this box boy at a Grocery Store Chain I used to work at during high school. He got caught lifting a six pack and then snitched on his minimum wage brothers who did the same every Friday night.

Even better from the wall street journal:

Lance's tweet, earlier this week:

Last hard ride before the TdF. Test on the Col de la Madone. Record time?
No. Close to it? Yes. I'm ready.

Lance, looking the most mountain friendly since '05.

Lance also tweeted his displeasure with Outside's photoshopping of the t-shirt graphics. Apparently he wore a plain t-shirt for the shoot and was surprised by the uncouth discourtesy.

Lance should have used the same excuse for last year's Outside article.

Either way, Allez Lance! I'll be sure to give a shout in the Pyrenees.

Determination

Jonathan Fairman

Jonathan of Courage is a handsome man with two lovely daughters, married to his high-school sweetheart. Jonathan's not a Hero, yet, but he could easily be a part of the ranks. Just look at the determination in his face in the above picture. Marvel at his jutting chin, eyes wide open, facial hair nicely unkempt. Outnumbered by xXx riders, he's an outsider in the field -- a role he relishes.

And not unnoticed is his team's name: Courage. Teeth bared in the face of the opposition, Mr. Fairman is a brutal machine on the bike and a doting father off. Let's spurt the froth for this lad.
